{"id":253,"date":"2021-09-01T16:36:08","date_gmt":"2021-09-01T15:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cyberphil.azurewebsites.net\/?p=253"},"modified":"2021-09-01T16:36:10","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T15:36:10","slug":"whats-your-porn-star-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cyberphil.co.uk\/?p=253","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s Your Porn-Star Name?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Strange question and unless you<em> are<\/em> a porn-star you probably don\u2019t have one?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, we probably know the joke.&nbsp; Take your first pets name and your mothers maiden name and hey presto!&nbsp; That (apparently) would be your porn-star name (please don\u2019t send me these on comments!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What a hoot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, have you ever had to use a \u2018personal secret\u2019 alongside your username and password when creating an online account?\u00a0 Normally for password recovery reasons?\u00a0 Have you ever had the option of using a pets name or your mothers maiden name in this situation? Possibly a lot of the time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How about?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Where you were born?<\/li><li>Which school did you attend?<\/li><li>What year were you born?<\/li><li>A memorable moment?<\/li><li>Favourite colour?<\/li><li>Best friends name?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these seem familiar right?  And all of them are used in the process of you gaining access to an online resource if you forget or need to reset your password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not a new thing \u2013 but anybody also get tempted on Facebook to play the random question posts or games that get you to work out things like: \u2018Your Fairy Name\u2019 or \u2018The year that you are going to die?\u2019 etc \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other recent favourites are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Something interesting about the town you were born in without naming the town<\/li><li>Reverse the numbers in your age<\/li><li>Favourite colour and last thing you ate to work out your super hero name<\/li><li>Colour of your pants and pets name for your Rock Band name<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you ever stop to wonder when you get the hilarious results \u2013 where the data you submitted ends up, who has access to it and what happens to it?\u00a0 Have you noticed how many people can see your comments in the shared posts?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anybody now realise that what you are telling anonymous data-miners are (sometimes not directly) the recovery words for your accounts to bypass your password?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a risky game we play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am pleased to see that some of my Facebook friends are wise to this.\u00a0 But alas the vast majority are not.\u00a0 So here is my message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you see the games that \u2018Decide what animal you would be\u2019, \u00a0\u2018Calculate your mental age\u2019, or work out \u2018Your porn star name\u2019 on Social Media \u2013 if you want to play along \u2013 do it on a piece of paper at home and don\u2019t post and repost it for millions of people to see (and use).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That way you can still have a laugh and tell your family over dinner and hopefully you can trust them not to hack your accounts during pudding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another great idea is to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) (or 2-factor authentication (2FA)) on your online accounts.\u00a0 There are very few that don\u2019t do this now and Facebook is a great starting point if you haven\u2019t already done so.\u00a0 Check out the \u2018Security and login\u2019 settings in the Account settings and make it happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But also don\u2019t make it easy for people you don\u2019t know or trust to start guessing things about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have fun &#8211; but stay safe doing so!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Strange question and unless you are a porn-star you probably don\u2019t have one?!
